Ensure your decision is carried out

While 90% of people here support organ donation, only 50% of us have actually signed the Organ Donor Register.  By recording your decision, you can reinforce your support for organ donation and at the same time help your family to be sure what you would want should the circumstances arise, as well as the specialist healthcare staff who can check all of your details around what you would want to donate or not.

Registering on the NHS Organ Donor Register is the best way you can be sure your organ donation decision will be carried out. Your registration is held on the secure central NHS database so healthcare professionals will know what your decision is and exactly what organs and/or tissue you want to donate.

Your family will always be consulted about whether you wanted to be an organ donor or not, and clinicians will never proceed with organ donation if your family or loved ones object.

Peace of mind for families

If something were to happen to you unexpectedly, would those closest to you know what your latest decision was about organ donation? By recording your decision on the Organ Donor Register, you can give your family peace of mind that your decision is honoured.  It’s also really important to talk to them about it as soon as you decide, so everyone is aware.

By signing the Register and talking about your decision you can relieve your family of the burden of having to make the decision at a difficult time.  Together with the Specialist Nursing staff, they can also make sure any particular needs you have in line with your faith or beliefs are taken into consideration.

Register your decision

Donation is a personal decision and you have a choice about whether or not you want to donate.
